On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 a 7.0 earth quake hit the Island of Haiti. Buildings began to crumble as the earth opened, not strong enough to withstand the forces of nature. No longer homes, business, schools or churches, but slabs and piles of rubble, the world watched in amazement and wondered how will they rebuild? Often we look at our own situations as 7.0 earthquakes. Circumstances have built up within us so that we can no longer withstand them. There were strong shakes and “aftershocks” to follow. After a while the tearing at your soul turns into a crumble and all that is spiritually right seems to crumble fall. You look in the mirror only to not recognize the reflection in front of you. There used to be love and determination in your eyes, but the “earthquake” has shattered and torn you from the inside out. What is visible now, are slabs of pain and brokenness.
Much like the people of Haiti, so many women need to rebuild. For many of us we have survived our own “earthquakes” as well as the “aftershocks”. You are here at the beginning of a new decade at the beginning of a new day; and you may need to rebuild: your spiritual life; your natural life; your family; your goals etc, here is your chance. You have faced many obstacles and keep in mind many did not or will not survive what you have been through, they will physically, spiritually or mentally die with “earthquake”. Whether you found your own way from underneath the rubble or someone heard your cry and helped to pull you out, you owe it to yourself to discover your purpose, develop in it, and fulfill it. Use this opportunity which may be your second, third or fourth to rebuild. “The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.” Proverbs: 14:1 Article written by Lushonda Okoli
